The allure of Wategos is found in its unique duality: it stands in close proximity to a heaving town while maintaining an air of seclusion. And along those golden-shores is Raes.
As grandiose as ever, Rae's on Wategos is a boutique retreat offering just seven opulent suites.

A place that has topped all my lists, for some time - did not fall short, on any expectation. Our hostess, ensured a warm welcome, before letting us loose amid the building's gracefully arched walls and winding staircases. Ascending to the top floor, we discovered our sanctuary—the Mirabella Penthouse.

This elegant suite features towering white walls adorned with original Bromley artworks. The spacious living area seamlessly connects to two terraces, both offering sweeping views of the ocean and the sentinel lighthouse. At the rear, an atrium that looks over the wild garden and in-ground pool. The pièce de résistance of the suite is the meticulously handcrafted four-poster bed, fashioned from fine wood and dressed in silk sheets. Carrying on, the marble powder room is fitted with a sunken spa bath and his-and-hers basins. The central living area, with its European-inspired daybed set against the arched glass windows, offers glimpses of the surrounding natural beauty. That night, we succumbed to slumber with the salty sea breeze wafting through open doors, and awoke to a wooden tray bearing fresh fruit and croissants.

Leaving the shores of Wategos proved to be a harder task than imagined. This place is undeniably special and has earned its status as a true east-coast icon.
